Tumors of the parapharyngeal space

Tumor of the parapharyngeal space present a challenge to head and neck surgeons with regard to diagnosis and surgical treatment as well. The reasons for this are wide range of benign and malignant neoplasms including highly vascular ones, difficult access, quite a number of vital structures within the space and possible invasion of the skull base.
On the basis of about 90 cases treated in our institution systemic preoperative evaluation of these lesions will be presented. From this evaluation proper surgical approach for the tumor can be selected. Indications and highlights of surgical techniques will be discussed.
